Our Mission

The mission of the Cranberry CUP (Cranberry Community Uniting People) is to strengthen community bonds to offer hope, support, and encouragement to individuals and families facing life’s challenges. Our goal is to build a network of care that nurtures compassion, unity, and a sense of belonging, while fostering a culture of giving back to the community.
Our 2025 Inspirational Family
Our 2025 Inspirational Family is Janette Sutphin and her 17 year-old daughter Jade. Janette is a 46 year old single mom who was diagnosed with inoperable stage 4 colon cancer. When Janette was in her 20s, she was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease resulting in considerable weight loss as she couldn’t eat much of anything. She was able to get her Crohn’s disease somewhat under control and graduated from college in 2011 with a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. Since her colon cancer diagnosis, Janette has been unable to work making it difficult to manage her life and provide for her daughter. Janette’s doctors told her that with Crohn’s disease, she has a 95% chance at beating her cancer. She had two weeks of chemo and eight weeks of radiation. She said it was one of the most difficult periods of her life and the lowest she ever felt. She soon had to use a wheelchair just to get her radiation treatments. Unfortunately, the chemo and radiation treatments did not work, and her only other option was surgery. Janette had the surgery only to find out that the doctors could not get all the cancer and her prognosis is bleak. At this point, Janette is bedridden and her mother and daughter take care of her the best they can. Janette is spending her time imparting wisdom to her daughter and cherishing the time she has left with her. Janette wants to express her deepest gratitude to the Cranberry CUP for the incredible kindness and support shown to her family. Every act of generosity, every prayer—has meant more than she could ever say. Janette wants everyone to know that while her time here may be short, she rests easier knowing that her daughter has been cared for by a community that truly lives by love and compassion. Janette said, “Thank you for seeing us, for showing up for us, and for being the kind of neighbors that make Cranberry a home. You’ve not only lifted us financially, you’ve lifted our spirits, and that is a gift beyond measure. Please keep Janette and her family in your prayers as she fights for her life.
